Last Friday I had the pleasure of opening the new £2.5 million entrance at St George's Hospital in Tooting. The entrance has been paid for entirely by contributions to the St George's Hospital Charity, and will form a new focal point for the hospital and for visitors, waiting area and place to relax (helped by the addition of an M&S shop and some lovely new landscaped open spaces outside the entrance). You can see and hear a bit more about it in my youtube below, or click here to see more photos and get more information about the new entrance. Afterwards I paid a visit to the maternity unit, where I met midwife's, doctors, nurses and hospital managers to discuss the ongoing improvements that are being made to the unit. It was eerily quiet when I visited - hardly a patient in sight - but apparently had been completely full only 48 hours earlier. I was impressed with the staff, and the changes that are being made in light of a critical Healthcare Commission report, and look forward to returning to see even more improvements in the future.
