    Climate Change

This morning I joined Peter Mandelson and Ed Miliband in Guildford to see for ourselves some of the Green buses that will help reduce greenhouse emissions.  Last week I announced a £30 million fund for local authorities or bus operators to purchase low carbon buses. The visit was in advance of the Low Carbon Transition Plan announced today. As Minister of State for Transport, I am pleased that we have also published our Carbon Reduction Strategy which feeds into the wider strategy to provide a greener future.

    Big Lunch

I’ve already got one eye on the weekend, and the dozen or so (!) Big Lunch Street Parties that are being thrown throughout the constituency as part of a national day of street parties devised by the Eden Project to bring communities together in a fun and friendly way.

Our area has always had a fantastic community spirit, and I’m proud of the number of events residents have managed to organise (with a little help from me with red tape – see my website here).

I’ve set myself the challenge of attending as many as I can on Sunday - regardless of the impact on my waistline.

Street parties that I know about are planned for (big breath...):

    Ashvale Road SW17 8TA, Fountain Road SW17 0HG, Franche Court Road SW17 0JU, Burntwood Lane SW17 0JY, Park Hill Court SW17 7LX, Montana Road SW17 8SN, Cloudesdale Road SW17 8ES, Eardley Road SW16 6DA,
    Cunliffe Street SW16 6DS, Beclands Road SW17 9TL, Salterford Road SW17 9TF, Elderfield Pantry SW17 6EB, Birchwood Road/ Clairview Road SW16 6TZ

If you know about any more parties locally, let me know, and I'll be pleased to come along.  I’m worried I might need a fork-lift truck to carry me between the final streets on my marathon – but I can’t wait!

Hopefully I’ll see lots of you on Sunday. Come and say hi if you see me!
