Hundreds of children from seven Primary Schools across Tooting have been busy designing festive Christmas cards, one of which will be printed on local MP Sadiq Khan’s Christmas card. His office has been flooded with hundreds of colourful and inventive designs from promising young local artists.

The winners and the runners up of the Christmas card competition 2008 were chosen by three judges from the local community.

Father Ernest Bonvini, Priest at St Boniface Church, the Station Manager of Wandsworth Fire Station Mr John Day and Councillor Billi Randall had the extremely difficult task of picking the winners and runners up.

Sadiq is still finalising his Christmas card list but the winning design will be sent to thousands of local residents, local charities and local organisations as well as the Prime Minister, Lewis Hamilton, JK Rowling and Prince Charles.

Sadiq said: “The standard of the designs was outstanding. I didn’t envy the judges the very difficult task of picking winner and runners up.

The judges and I were all extremely impressed by the enthusiastic response from the local children.

The Judges found it very tricky to choose a winner from all of the beautiful cards that local schoolchildren designed.

I would like to congratulate all the children who entered the competition; they should all be immensely proud of the cards they have designed.

I shall take great pleasure in sending out the card, and showing everyone how much artistic talent our youngsters have here in Tooting!”
