Sadiq visiting Graveney School with Schools Secretary Ed Balls MP -Sadiq has secured investment of £260 million in Wandsworth Schools in the next five years

Sadiq was shocked to discover that Wandsworth Council has failed to claim an additional £2.7 million.

As well as helping to transform local schools, the injection of cash now instead of next year will help to boost the economy by giving immediate support to many small and medium-sized local businesses contracted in to fit out the new facilities.

Sadiq said “It is shocking that because of Wandsworth Council’s inaction local schools and businesses will miss out on nearly three million pounds of funding.”

“Wandsworth’s schools are all excellent and in demand, putting pressure on school places and resources.

“Residents will have to wait even longer for plans to rebuild, expand and improve facilities to be realised.  These could have started now.

“This money is available for local schools and could help local businesses too. I simply cannot understand why Wandsworth Council have failed to even bid for the extra cash. This is either incompetence or dogma”

“Many local residents will be asking why Wandsworth Council didn’t put in a bid for this money.”

Thousands of school modernisation programmes throughout the country have been brought forward as £919 million of spending has been made available by the Government.

Neighbouring Local Authority Merton has brought forward over £8 million under the programme and Lambeth have brought forward £1.8 million.
