As last week was the last week before Parliament returned for Sittings, I also spent some time meeting local residents during the day time and getting a better feel of the issues of concern to local people. I also joined Labour Councillor for Tooting Cllr Nick Bowes in a visit to Tooting Hub in Beechcroft Road, which has recently been refurbished extensively over the last year thanks to record investment from the Government. The studios, computer facilities, refurbished hall, kitchen facilities, glass entrance and general high quality up grade are all very impressive. I was equally impressed by the commitment of the team to try and get as many local young people involved as possible. It is early days yet for the new facility and I really hope as word spreads about the new facilities take up will increase. I also spent Saturday afternoon (whilst millions watched England beat Australia in the Quarter Finals of the Rugby World Cup) with hundreds of local residents at St Mary’s Church in Balham watching the South London Choir and Ravenstone Primary School Choir perform magically to raise money to build a South London branch of the Demelza Children’s Hospice.
