Sadiq Khan MP has welcomed the council’s plans to review road safety on Burtnwood Lane and Nightingale Lane, following a successful campaign with local residents to improve road safety in the area. As part of his ‘Safer Streets’ campaign, Sadiq has been working with local residents to improve road safety throughout the constituency, particularly in residential areas and around schools. Residents on Burntwood Lane and Nightingale Lane have been campaigning to get Wandsworth Council to review the existing speed bumps. Burntwood Lane and Nightingale Lane are used as a cut-through by lorries and other large vehicles, which can drive over the existing bumps at dangerous speeds. Nightingale Lane residents recently collected 856 signatures on a 32ft petition – claiming Wandsworth Council has ignored the issue of road safety on the road for 14 years. Sadiq Khan MP said, “Road safety is a serious issue which the council continues to get wrong. They now need to listen to residents and develop a clear and coherent policy to make our streets safer."
