Youth Parliament for Wandsworth's Young People |
|

Wandsworth Council is one of the remaining few Councils yet to join the UK Youth Parliament and is denying young people in Tooting their right to participate and to have their voice heard.
The UK Youth Parliament is run by young people and provides opportunities for 11-18 year-olds to use their voice in creative ways to bring about social change. It has 600 elected Members of Youth Parliament who organise events and projects, run campaigns and influence decision makers on the issues which matter most to them. Wandsworth Council is denying local young people the opportunity to get involved and to have their say.
This year for the first time ever the Youth Parliament is coming to the House of Commons to have a debate and in a truly historic move Members of the Youth Parliament will be the only people other than MPs allowed to sit on the green leather seats in the chamber.
The Youth Parliament set their own campaigns, which are cheaper bus fares for young people, scrap university tuition fees and political education for all. Their previous campaign centring on the quality and provision of sex and relationship education was really successful and collected 5000 signatures that were presented to MPs and helped to influence a government review. Sadiq is campaigning to get Wandsworth Council to change their minds and to give local young people this opportunity. If you support Sadiq's campaign to get Wandsworth's young people represented in the UK Youth Parliament please sign his petition below.
