Educated at Tooting's Ernst Bevin College, Sadiq is a regular visitor to schools and colleges in the local area (as well as being a school governor).

Sadiq passionately supports the Labour Government's investment in schools and Sure Start Centres. Since 1997, the number of young people from tooting going to university has risen by 58%. There has also been a 100% rise in the number of local students that have completed apprenticeships since 2003/04.

Sadiq has been heavily involved in a planned merger between South Thames College and Merton College. The aim of the merger is to safeguard the provision of further education to local communities while also enabling the merged institution to focus on providing access to meaningful career pathways and sustainable employment opportunities for both young people and adults.

Sadiq’s Safer Streets campaign has seen him working closely with parents, teachers and local councillors to improve road safety around a number of schools in Tooting. The campaign led to significant improvements to the roads around five primary schools in Tooting; Sellincourt Primary School, Fircroft Primary School, Gatton Primary School, Furzedown Primary School and Ravenstone Primary School.

Since then Sadiq has worked to extend his safer streets campaign by writing to all local primary schools and has lobbied Wandsworth Council about road safety issues on Southcroft Road and Burntwood Lane. To read more about the Safer Streets Campaign click here.
