On Tuesday 7th December Wandsworth Council’s Planning Applications Committee (PAC) voted unanimously to refuse planning permission for the current plans to re-develop Springfield Hospital. Despite overwhelming local opposition to the plans (over 4000 people objected) the plans had been recommended for approval by the planning department – so it was essential that as many people as possible attended the Planning Applications Committee and show the councillors on the committee just how strong, and united, the opposition to these plans was. Before the meeting Sadiq wrote to all the councillors on the PAC asking them to reject the plans. You can read his letter here. Once again, the campaign worked. Local councillors (from both major parties) lined up to speak against the plans, and the final decision was to reject them on two broad grounds: the impact on transport infrastructure (particularly roads) locally, and the impact on metropolitan open land.
The next step is to ensure the decision to refuse is supported by the Mayor of London, and to ensure Springfield Hospital do not appeal the decision. Make sure you write to the Mayor of London at

and ask him to support Wandsworth Council’s decision before the 20th December. Sadiq has written to the Chief Executive of Springfield Hospital asking her not to appeal, and to the Mayor of London asking him to sign-off on the refusal of this application. You can see copies of his letters here and here. No more taxpayers money should be wasted on a planning application that has been so comprehensively been rejected by the local community.
