Just got back from my meeting with the interim Chief Executive Judy Wilson, who has been in post for 3 days now.
I asked for an inquiry to look into whether there are systemic failures which have led to the large number of escapes, so many of which have had tragic consequences. The Hospital and Trust needs to demonstrate to me, and to local residents, that they fully understand our concerns and are taking steps to address this.
With this in mind I was impressed with her willingness to take on board my criticisms of the way the hospital was dealing with high number of medium-secure patients who have escaped in the recent past.
We shall see how things turn out.
