Convicted murderer has escaped from Springfield Hospital
Tuesday, 17 February 2009 22:58

This is from the Press Association Coverage, which you can read here

"A convicted murderer is on the run after he fled a secure mental hospital, police said.
Paul Caesar, 37, was last seen at Springfield Hospital, Tooting south London at 11am on Tuesday.

He is under a hospital order after being convicted for murder in 1996, a Metropolitan Police spokesman said.

The spokesman declined to give further details of the murder.

Caesar was described by police as a light-skinned black male, 5ft 9ins tall, with short-cropped receding hair.

He was last seen wearing a grey cap, white trainers, a black zip-up jacket and blue tracksuit bottoms with white piping.

The public was urged not to approach him Caesar but to call 999 immediately."

UPDATE: I am absolutely flabbergasted at this latest security breach.

Like many residents I need to be convinced that those running the Hospital are on top of keeping dangerous patients secure in the Hospital, rather than absconding and posing a serious threat to local residents.

The Hospital does some great work but events such as this, which appear to be becoming more frequent, undoes a lot of the good will local residents feel towards it.

The interim Chief Executive and the Chair of the Trust have some very serious problems to deal with and questions to answer.
