As the campaign to save the 'R.A.C.S' building on Upper Tooting Road continues, Sadiq has launched an online petition which will be submitted to Wandsworth Council's Planning Application Committee, who will consider the plans to demolish the building at the end of June.

One of Tooting’s most iconic landmarks, the R.A.C.S building on Upper Tooting Road, is threatened with demolition.
Its owners have applied for planning permission to demolish the Art Deco classic building, and replace it with a hotel, flats, a community facility and shops.

If the plans go ahead Tooting will lose:
  • One of its most iconic and best looking historical buildings
  • A community facility that is well used by local residents and community groups
  • Tooting’s only Hindu temple—which attracts thousands of people to Tooting
  • Restaurants and shops that are part of the fabric of Tooting.

In its place Tooting will be left with an oversized hotel and apartment block which will be completely out of keeping with the character of the area.

Local residents have the power to stop this development.
