As part of the improvements, work is already under way to extend the platform canopies to provide further shelter in poor weather. Sadiq Khan has been campaigning for improvements to Earlsfield Station since he was elected in 2005 as MP for Tooting. This work helped secure improvements to passenger safety and security, a new disabled access point, improved ticketing facilities and some minor renovation work. In 2007 Sadiq secured funding for lift access to Earlsfield Station, but it was apparent that nothing short of a complete refurbishment of the station would be sufficient. So Sadiq kept up the pressure. Sadiq Khan MP said, “When I was first elected in 2005 I pledged to improve accessibility and safety at all our local rail and tube stations. “This £8 million refurbishment has been one of my biggest, and hardest fought, victories. “I’ve always said local residents deserve better, and now they’ll get it.” |
