Updated: Now with photos (see below) The event, which is aimed at providing free and confidential advice to local residents on essential entitlements, energy efficiency grants and wider community help schemes, was a great success, with dozens of local residents attending to receive advice from a range of local organisations, and help with their bills. To date over £1 million has been invested in Tooting as part of the Warm Front scheme, with over 800 households assisted with improved heating and insultation. Warm Front works by providing contributions of up to £2,700 towards insulation and gas heating measures and £4,000 for oil for the elderly, disabled and low income families. These households benefited from a range of energy efficiency measures including loft and cavity wall insulation, new heating systems and draught proofing. Many of those who have benefited from the scheme are reporting average households savings of almost £200 a year, and the Warm Front ‘Benefit Entitlement Checks’ have led to an income rise of nearly £1,500 per constituent who has taken it up. Visitors to the event were able to access advice and services from the local Community Safety Team, London Fire Brigade, Citizen’s Advice Bureau the Furzedown Project and other local community organisations. Update: I've now uploaded a few photos from the event. There was a great turnout, and everyone got a lot out of the morning. Thank you to all of the organisations that ran stalls, and to Eaga Partnership for funding the event. You can see more photos here: www.flickr.com/sadiqkhanmp |
