Many readers will have known Joan Steward, long-time friend, member and local activist for Wandsworth’s disabled people. Sadly Joan passed away this week at St George’s Hospital. Joan did outstanding work in the community, particularly with Wandsworth Access Association, to support services and facilities for disabled people throughout Wandsworth. She was a personal friend, and supported me throughout my time as a councillor and Member of Parliament, helping with successful campaigns to improve access arrangements on local transport services. In December I presented her with a lifetime achievement award at Wandsworth Access Association’s end of year party (you can read about it here). She was Wandsworth through-and-through, and will be greatly missed.
