On Sunday Sadiq opened (and ran) the Tooting 5K and Family Running Festival in support of St George’s Hospital Charity, held in the leafy grounds of Springfield Hospital. Children competed in a 1k event, followed by an adults’ 5k race. The day finished with a fun family relay event. Sadiq Khan MP, who started the children’s event, and ran the 5km course in 24:50, said: "This year’s event was the best one so far, with more than twice as many people taking part as last year. “It was great to see so many families taking part in both races – my girls really enjoyed the 1km race. “It's really important that the local and wider community have a role in our hospitals and feel ownership of them. “I really enjoyed the fun run and didn't mind being teased as I was overtaken by much fitter doctors, nurses , staff and service users.” All profits from the event are going to South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust charitable funds and St George’s Hospital charity.
