Many residents will be aware of efforts that have been made recently to crack down on street robberies, burglaries and shop robberies in the Furzedown area. This has been an ongoing problem, with many people in Furzedown getting in touch to raise concerns with myself and Furzedown's Councillors - Cllr Leonie Cooper, Cllr John Farebrother and Cllr Mark Thomas. We have been passing these concerns on to the police, and working closely with the local police Safer Neighbourhood Team and Wandsworth Police to ensure these crimes are dealt with and our streets made safe again. On Tuesday 28th June Wandsworth Police ran a successful operation to target gang members operating in Furzedown, who are believed to be responsible for as many as 50 offences in Wandsworth and Streatham over the past 9 months.
These gang members have preyed on some of the most vulnerable people in our community, targeting children, businesses and homes, often using violence against their victims. At the time of writing 10 individuals have been arrested and remain in custody, and the police hope to make further arrests, seriously disrupting the activities of this gang and sending a strong message that violent crime and robberies will not be tolerated. The police action would not have been possible if residents had not come forward and reported crimes they witnessed or were victims of. As long as residents continue to report these crimes and raise these concerns we can work to tackle the problems that have been blighting our neighbourhood. Your police Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) are one of the key tools we have to deal with crime locally. They’re your local ‘bobbies on the beat’ and their priorities are set by residents at a ward panel (Cllr Mark Thomas is currently the Chair of the Furzedown Ward panel). If you would like to discuss any issues with the Furzedown SNT yourself then please call them on 020 8721 2423 or 07920 23393, or email them at
