Fircroft school children say no to lollipop people cuts

Schools are back and now is a good time to step up our campaign and save our School Crossing Patrols from being lost. Helen Toft this week launched an excellent e-petition to urge the Government to intervene with local authorities trying to cut School Crossing Patrols. If we manage to get 100,000 signatures, this issue can be debated in Parliament, so once you have signed it (which you can do here) pass it on to your friends and family!
I was really disappointed to hear that Wandsworth Council are planning to scrap ‘lollipop ladies and men’ and I have lobbied the leader of Wandsworth Council, Councillor Ravi Govindia about my deep concerns and to ask the Council to continue to fund and manage all School Crossing Patrols in the borough.

We have an excellent record of road safety in Wandsworth which I am very keen to maintain and I will continue to urge the Council to keep up our standards of safety, especially with regards to children.

Parents and teachers have gathered, as is the Tooting spirit, to organise a fantastic campaign to save this service from being cut. They have highlighted that the costs of children having a designated person to help them cross the road safely are minimal and that the savings simply would not be worth putting children at risk. I am very proud to be part of this campaign and joined activists recently to demonstrate the local opposition to the proposed cuts.

I would encourage anyone who feels the same as me to get involved. For more information you can follow the campaign here.
