NHS changes

"It is difficult to overstate the public opposition to the Health and Social Care Bill, from doctors, nurses, patients and the wider public.  We left the government with a health service that had never been more popular – and the message from the vast majority of people could not be clearer: hands off our NHS.  The government has ignored this message and is ploughing on with these destructive reforms regardless of public opinion or expert opposition to the plans.

The government’s mismanagement of the NHS is already starting to show, with a 48% increase in the number of patients waiting more than 18 weeks for NHS treatment in the last year.  In Tooting 30% of patients in four key treatment areas are waiting over 18 weeks for treatment – and with a 10% cut in posts at St George’s taking place now, the challenge for local health services is only going to increase.

There is still time for the government to reconsider, withdraw the Bill as it is, and accept our offer to work together on stabilising the NHS, and introducing reforms that protect it from further damage.

Until then we will work around the clock to change the Bill and protect our NHS."
