Time for a 'fare deal'
Wednesday, 09 November 2011 18:00

In January Boris Johnson is hiking fares up by 7%, and in the future fares will rise by 2% above inflation every year, for the next 20 years.

It’s not fair, and it’s hitting Londoners hard.

In just three years he's increased Oyster bus fares by more than 50% and a weekly Zones 1-4 Travelcard now costs nearly 25% more.  Meanwhile the Tory government is allowing London train companies to increase fares by up to 13% a year.

Boris Johnson’s mismanagement of Transport for London and failure to stand up for Londoners is costing local commuters hundreds of pounds a year, at a time when money is tight for so many people

At the Mayoral election next May, you can put a stop to this.

Ken Livingstone has cut fares before and if elected he'll do it again. He's pledged:

•  an average cut to fares of 5% in Autumn 2012
•  No fare rises at all in 2013
•  Fares never to go up faster than prices

Under his plans Londoners will save £800 over 4 years – a real help to millions of people.

It's time for a 'fare deal' for Londoners.
