Remembrance Day

This is an excerpt from Sadiq's weekly e-newsletter:

I want to start today’s email with a message of remembrance for members of the armed forces, veterans and their families, who have given so much in service to this country.  There are many families in the constituency who have parents or grandparents who served and died for Britain in the First and Second World Wars – as the hundreds of names on war memorials across the constituency attest.

Many local residents have come to the UK from former commonwealth countries, and also have loved ones who served in support of Britain and made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

There are also many families in the constituency with loved ones who  are currently serving in our armed forces, or who have lost relatives and friends – we will never forget their sacrifice, and honour their memories.

On Sunday I will join in this remembrance at a service at St Nicholas Church in Tooting where I will read out the names of constituents who have served and died for Britain in the two World Wars, and other conflicts since – I will also be thinking of the brave men and women I met in Afghanistan, many of whom are still serving there.  We will never forget.
