speaker_awards.gifThe fourth annual Speaker's School Council Awards are open to every infant, primary and secondary school in the UK. The awards are organised by Parliament's Education Service.

A winning school council will be awarded in each of four age categories:

Infant age (4-7), Junior age (7-11), Secondary age (11-16) and Young adults (16-19).

This is a competition which gives local schools the opportunity to celebrate their school council and the difference that it has made for students.

Sadiq has written to every primary and secondary school in the constituency to encourage them to take part.

Schools are asked to nominate their most successful school council project which has made a difference to the school or community. The size of the project or achievement is not important; the real emphasis is on the positive outcomes that have come from the council's efforts.

All schools that take part will be receiving a certificate for entering from John Bercow MP, Speaker of The House of Commons and runners-up will be awarded a commemorative plaque for their school. The winners will be invited to the Houses of Parliament to accept their winner's trophy from the Speaker of the House himself!

Nominating a school council for an award is easy; all you have to do is write about the school council project that you are most proud of. This can be done online or with a posted application form, both of which can be found online at www.speakersschoolcouncil.org

The competition is now open until the 30th April.

Sadiq Khan MP said,

"This is a great opportunity for local schools to showcase their talents. It's also a brilliant way to build confidence and create the leaders of tomorrow.

"It is important to take the time to recognise the work and effort that goes into school councils and to encourage children to make important decisions together.

"I have visited many local school councils and I know there is a lot of talent in Tooting. It would be absolutely fantastic to see a school from our constituency win this award!"
