"It was great to see so many people attend the meeting last night in the Town Hall. Many interesting and valid points were raised but like many local residents I remain extremely concerned for the future of our Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNT) and Tooting Police Station. I stressed to the panel the importance of the local link between SNT officers and the community, and my fears if this is lost.

"The Metropolitan Police's own figures show that the number of reported crimes in Wandsworth increased by 3,000 in the last year, and that there was a 10% increase in reported burglaries locally, so I am naturally worried that the cut in SNTs and closure of Tooting police station to the public will not do anything to reassure local residents who are concerned about a rise in crime!

"Many residents do not want to only have the option to contact the police by a telephone call to a call centre or internet. The idea of being able to discuss sensitive matters with the police in a shopping centre will discourage people from coming forward.

"Since the Metropolitan Police was first formed in the 19^th century we have always had an operational police station in Tooting. If the Mayor has his way, this will no longer be the case!

"The Mayor's Policing and Crime plan is at best vague, and at worst misleading. It has left me with more questions than answers and I would urge everyone to make sure they submit their comments to the consultation before it closes on 6^th March".
