Tooting has a friendly and inclusive community but anyone who has been a victim of crime knows what an impact it can have. Crime in Tooting has been steadily falling over the last few years but it is still not good enough. Consequently a huge part of Sadiq's job is maintaining strong relations with the Metropolitan Police and representatives of the local community. Sadiq has successfully campaigned for more investment in community policing, after the then Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith, announced that The Special Constabulary was to be boosted by 6,000 new constables over the next three years and an additionional £2.25 million funding package to be spent on the recruitment and training of ‘Specials’. Sadiq has also helped to set up a working parternship between Tooting locals and the Metropolitan police in order to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in the area. To read more about this initiative please click here. Below is a video demonstrating how Sadiq's work with local residents is forcing the Council to better confront these issues.
Sadiq believes one of the key responsibilities of being an MP is to make sure that the people of Tooting are constantly updated on new developments, whether good or bad, and to make sure that the concerns of constituents are always heard. Please take advantage of your local MP by raising any concerns you might have or providing any information that may enable us to tackle crime in the area. At a national level, Sadiq has been heavily involved on the debate concerning the introduction of new anti-terrorism legislation. You can read more about Sadiq's views here. Special Neighbourhood Teams SNTs are specialised local police teams which aim to directly work with local communities in order to tackle issues of crime more efficiently. The Metropolitan Police has six SNTs in the Tooting area (Earlsfield, Wandsworth Common, Tooting, Bedford and Nightingale, Graveney and Furzedown). To find out more about the work they are doing please visit Sadiq's SNT section by clicking here. Latest News
