| Community Heroes visit Downing Street |

The winners of Sadiq's competition to find Tooting's Community Heroes were invited to Downing Street to meet the Prime Minister at a reception for community heroes from across the country. It's a wonderful way of recognising the hard work of so many, and the real difference they make to their local community. Without them many of our local sports teams, clubs, charities, schools and community groups would not exist. Sadiq was delighted by the massive response towards the scheme with over 40 local heroes being nominated. In fact the response was so big that Sadiq managed to increase the number of heroes who joined him at 10 Downing Street. They were: Steph Neale - Headmaster of Beatrix Potter School whose innovative and enthusiastic approach towards education has been recognised by many in the community. Kate Allan - Secretary of the Balham and Tooting Community Association (BATCA) and has helped coordinate events which have raised thousands of pounds for the local hospital through popular events like the annual Midsummer Fun Day and a 5-a-side tournament at the Furzedown Rec which took place recently. Caroline Holden - who is heavily involved in the Furzedown community Network and is one of the key driving forces behind the excellent Furzedown Festival. Thom Reilly - who was at the heart of the campaign to stop the mega-development at Springfield Hospital. Indrajit Patel - Chair of the Tooting Business Partnership and Tooting's Regeneration Programme 'Young People - Agents for Change'. Gunvantrai Shah - Mr Shah recently received a Lifetime Volunteer Award from Wandsworth Council for the work he does at the care home, Ronald Gibson House in Springfield Hospital. He has been volunteering for over 20 years at Ronald Gibson house since it opened in 1991.
