A diverse group of young people from around Tooting recently descended on the House of Commons for Sadiq Khan MP’s “Young People’s Forum”. Higher Education Minister David Lammy MP, Umar Kankiya, the regional organiser for the UK Youth Parliament, Tooting Councillor Dr Nick Bowes, and Luke Pritchard, lead singer of The Kooks, also attended. Sadiq and the other speakers were quizzed on a range of issues, from the value of free speech and the BNPs inclusion in this week’s BBC Question time, to the implications of the Lisbon Treaty for British Sovereignty and the role of local councillors and local government. Sadiq Khan MP said “This event was for young people to speak to me directly about the changes that they’d like to see and to inspire people to get involved in politics.” “I asked everyone there to let me know their ideas for Tooting and what they think the government should be doing and i've followed them up their excellent suggestions with government ministers.”
