Earlier this year plans to build a mega-development on the Springfield Hospital site were rejected by Wandsworth Borough Council’s Planning Application Committee. This followed a year-long campaign in which many local residents, and which Sadiq was incredibly proud to be a part of. The original plans were rejected on a number of grounds, but one of the biggest complaints from the local community was the lack of informal and formal consultation that had been undertaken prior to the planning application. Since March Sadiq has been working with local residents and hospital management to ensure the hospital fully engages with the local community on the new plans. Through meeting regularly with the Chief Executive of Springfield Hospital, the Springfield Taskforce (made up of a panel of local residents and Sadiq) has convinced the hospital’s board to delay the submission of a new planning application until mid-2010 at the earliest, giving the hospital time to consult with residents and take their views into account.
