From November many local residents using the Balham to London Victoria Line have been using their Oyster cards on the train. From January, Oyster pay-as-you-go will be rolled out across the rest of London’s rail network. This will enable people to travel seamlessly around London, on the bus, tube, train and river using their Oyster cards.

Sadiq Khan, local MP and Minister in the Department for Transport said “I am delighted at the announcement that people will be able to use pay-as-you-go Oyster cards on train services across London from January. I have been campaigning for this for years now.”

“It has been extremely difficult to secure an agreement as there so many train operating companies are involved, but it is important as it will make a huge difference for so many local residents.”

“People's journeys will now be much easier, there will be no need for people to have two different cards and there will be fewer queues at the ticket offices.”

Lord Adonis, Secretary of State for Transport said "If we are to encourage more people on to public transport we must make it as easy and convenient to use as possible. That is exactly what Oyster has done in London and why extending pay-as-you-go to rail services is so important."
