Helping Tooting Oxfam raise money for Haiti

Sadiq Khan MP was proud to hand over nearly £200 to staff at the Oxfam store on Upper Tooting Road, which had lent him collection buckets to raise money for the DEC Haiti Earthquake appeal.

The money was donated by Tooting residents, members of religious groups, and charitable organisations following an event Sadiq organised with Secretary of State for International Development, Rt Hon. Douglas Alexander MP.

The meeting, organised by Sadiq Khan MP, was a chance for Tooting residents to quiz the Minister responsible for International Development. A variety of issues were covered during the event in the House of Commons. However, the situation in Haiti was at the top of the list for many attendees who gave generously at the end of the evening. Staff at the Oxfam store in Tooting were delighted with the amount raised, which will help provide much needed humanitarian assistance to the people of Haiti.

Sadiq Khan MP said "The meeting with the Secretary of State for International Development was a highly successful evening. Not only did the large turnout of local residents allow for a lively Q&A about issues that really concern people but the amount raised for Haiti on the night was fantastic. The generosity of Tooting residents never ceases to amaze me."
