Tescos have agreed to have a meeting with local retailers to discuss their concerns and I am busy organising this to take place in Tooting in the very near future. Most of Tuesday and Thursday was taken up with the Criminal Justice and Immigration Bill, Public Committee stage.(See below for more details of this Bill). I also met with John Barnes, Liverpool legend, and one of the stars of Strictly Come Dancing to discuss CCPR’s (Central Council of Recreative Physical Training) ‘Subs for Clubs’ campaign to provide more tax relief for sports clubs that offer sporting activities to children. I also met with a delegation of Retired Pensioners of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) to discuss a campaign they are involved in to secure more benefits for older citizens On Friday, I joined staff at Earlsfield station to present them with a certificate for winning the South West Trains 2007 ‘Best Small Station Award’. I arranged for the Managing Director of South West Trains to join us and to speak to station staff and myself about the issues facing passengers at Earlsfield Station. The exhibition was held as part of the Church’s 40th anniversary celebrations. 20 local artists from Wandsworth displayed their beautiful works of art in the Church to mark this special occasion. You can see a photo of me opening the exhibition by clicking HERE On Sunday, I met with residents from streets in and around Tooting to discuss issues that local people wanted to raise with me. In addition to local Labour Councillors Nick Bowes, Rex Osborn, Andy Gibbons and Billi Randall we had local members of Tooting Labour Party and London Young Labour (www.londonyounglabour.com) join me, so we could meet as many residents as possible.
