Visiting 10 Downing Street with Burntwood students

Sadiq recently joined Burntwood Students at 10 Downing Street as they handed in a petition asking Gordon Brown to support the 'Send my friend to school' campaign, organised by the Global Campaign for Education.

Nelson Mandela, Michael Morpurgo and Dakota Blue are among some of the high profile supporters of this year's campaign. They have all
contributed a story, poem, speech or reflection for this year's main campaigning action, 'The Big Read'.

The theme is the importance of literacy and how the ability to read and write opens doors for all children.

Sadiq Khan MP said “Students from Burntwood School are keen to make sure that children around the world have the same opportunities they have and are taught to read and write.”

“It was lovely to meet the girls and take them and their petition to Downing Street.”

“The students are all extremely enthusiastic and committed to the cause. We might have a few future MPs on our hands!”
